Childhood at 27

April 9th

howdy

Part of the joy of visiting my parents is being taken care of. They pick me up from the airport, shower me with attention, take me to eat at their favorite restaurants, tuck me in at night and eventually drive me back to the airport. I sleep 12 hours a night without a care in the world. I eat a slice of any delicious family recipe I can get a plate of. I laugh until it hurts. I enjoy every drop of the time we get to spend together.

This quick Easter jaunt was no different. We saw “Blades of Glory” — which I loved. My father, on the other hand, isn’t a fan of Will Ferrell. He kept this to himself until after the movie. I stood there shocked and could only reply, “You just need more cowbell.”
We took a quick trip to Corpus Christi to see the Gulf of Mexico. It is decidedly brown in comparison to the Pacific.

why they call them sheephead fish

Sheephead fish. Look at those teeth!

My mom and I shopped until our credit cards threatened to strike. My dad and I watched the Masters and were thrilled when a young, newbie won. I also spent some quality time with Dharma, the favorite child. It was a wonderful weekend.

Now, back to the previously scheduled routine. I’ve got lots of tri-training, working and crafting to enjoy this week. It feels great to do so with the fresh start of post-Easter spring.

A wonderful week to all!

I started to say, isn’t it lovely to be able to go home again. But then I realized that for a lot of people, that isn’t the case. You are truly blessed and lcuky to have such a loving family…

(and – oh yeah, by the way? – I’m totally having nightmares about that fish tonight. Ick.)

  15. I’m so glad you had a great Easter weekend with your family. Our weekend was wonderful as well; my husband took me out to photograph wild flowers because I’m still learning about my camera. I’m so sorry to admit this to you, Kelli, but I vote with your family regarding Will F.

What a wonderful way to spend the weekend. I spent it taking a promotional exam, going over statistics, refereeing a family dispute, and doing everything possible not to inhale mini milkyways from Katgrrl’s basket. On the bright side, I lost two pounds and found myself wearing my favorite pair of brown pants to Easter Services!

  17. Sounds like a wonderful trip! Visiting family and being taken care of sounds like a great way to spend a weekend indeed!

That fish? Eek. It even has pink lips!

  18. Looks like you had a great time visiting your folks! Everything looked great, but that fish! OH MY GOODNESS, I think that those teeth are going to disturb me for a while. Yuck! πŸ™‚

Glad you had a nice visit.

  25. I feel the same way about visiting my parents. Somehow when my mom cooks something it tastes better! Those are some teeth on that fish. Still wanting to see Blades!

  26. Your parents look very sweet, but that fish scares the sh*t out of me!!

  27. WTF? That fish is FREE-KEE!! You think the Gulf is brown in Corpus Christi? You should get a look at it down here. Gross. The closer to the mouth of the Mississippi you get, the browner it is.
It sounds like you had a wonderful time, you’re lucky to have that πŸ™‚

  28. That fish is CREEPY! I want you to tell me that you photoshopped that fish, but a Google search suggests that your pic is really what they look like. Yuck.

The pic of your parents, however, is really sweet. I agree, part of the joy of going home is that you get pampered a bit no matter how old you are. It’s nice.

  29. I’m behind the times and just saw your hat on Whip Up. Congrats on your inclusion.

The trip home looks great. I’m prepping for a trip home myself and since I’m going to cattle farm, I’ll be sure to look for more cowbell for everyone!

  30. There’s nothing like going home to Mum, is there? Sounds like a wonderful time.

  31. what a wonderful easter weekend. your parents are so cute!
and i’m so excited to see blades of glory… i have to wait till this dental surgery heals since they told me i can’t laugh for a week πŸ™‚

  32. I have no idea what “more cowbell” means. My friend even has a wetsuit named cowbell. I will have to look that up.

And yes, those are some creeeeepy fishteeth. Brrrr! Erin’s right – the pink lips make them extra creepy.

  33. you did not just show me a photo of a fish with teeth! eeeek. so glad you had a lovely visit your your parents.
