Film Rouge

Movie night is something special at my house because I don’t venture into the rental world very often. Dim the lights, make a big batch of healthy kettle corn (popcorn*+ Splenda + cinnamon + dash of cayenne), grab some sodas and a pack of Red Vines to use as straws and cuddle up for a great flick. Valentine’s day is a great excuse to make the extra effort, especially considering this movie night might set you back $5 but certainly shows thought. (Which as you  know, goes much farther than bling to earn bonus points in my book.)

Great Valentine’s Movies:

Love Actually

The African Queen

Roman Holiday

Amelie

Like Water for Chocolate

Pretty Woman

(You can find the top 100 romantic movies of all time here.)

And to add the obvious pun: Lights! Camera! Action!

* I don’t mind popcorn in a movie setting — my greatest pet peeve–  when my own crunching cancels out the annoying crunching of others.

  1. Great suggestions and I think for Valetines Day I might sub out the popcorn, red vines and soda for some wine, and a cheese and fruit platter. A movie picnic perhaps, right in our very own tv room.

  2. I love Roman Holiday… actually anything with Audrey. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a favorite too. And Love Actually is on my list also. Great list of movies you have!!

  3. Roman Holiday is one of my all time favorites.

Will have to check out some on your list that I haven’t seen yet but keep hearing about. 🙂

  4. 🙂 all I can say is Gigi is underrated (it happens to be my fav next to Love Actually, French Kiss and The Holiday).

  5. Sounds like FUN! When we have movie nights, we usually make up some pizzas from dough we buy at Trader Joes or Fresh and Easy, get some good inexpensive merlot and some popcorn or share a slice of cheesecake. We move the coffee table over and bring the airbed and comforters out into the family room and have a big ol’ munchy-movie snuggle fest with the dog, cat, Mark and Me. Hmmm…I think I feel a movie night coming on! Hope your day was great Kelli! Sleep well! 🙂

  6. Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe I’ll rent Roman Holiday on Saturday. And popcorn- YUM! I like to pop it in a big pot with some vegetable oil and 5 or 6 cloves of garlic. The garlic gets soft and then I add a dash of salt. But your recipe sounds so intriguing too, with the cinnamon and cayenne. Not sure about the Splenda though. Do you really think it’s “healthy”?
