God Bless Crazy Wealthy People

Ready for her first ride

Sunday afternoon I took my friend Caitlin for her first horseback ride. I’d given her a gift certificate for her sixth birthday in November and planned on giving her photos of the outing (and maybe a printed t-shirt) for Christmas. Rainy weather kept us from cashing in the gift until today — and I’m pretty sure I had more fun than she did.

Caitlin and her first horseback ride

Why? Because half-way through her lesson, I noticed two African beauties on the other side of the property. Apparently there is some crazy wealth in Chandler because I spent the rest of the afternoon making googly eyes and these beauties.

What else is there on the horse property?
Yep, me and a giraffe. In Arizona. I love crazy wealthy people.

Sweetest creature on earth
Pretty sure she's a Kate Spade fan

One day, I want to have crazy, silly money and look at my husband and say, “Christmas? I want giraffe. And zebra. And donkeys and camels.” I’m pretty sure that’s what went down at this house recently and Noah showed up with an arc and delivered. Seriously, where does one even go to buy a giraffe? I didn’t know this was an option. And they may need a restraining order because I’m pretty sure I’m going to start showing up regularly with food and more photo equipment for my new African friends.

  1. Ok, your post today is confirmation that I’m getting a sign. I’ve been wanting to go to Africa, mainly to see giraffes in their natural habitat…today there was a picture of one in the paper, then my best friend asked if I wanted to go to Africa for our 40th b’days in a few years…now your post! I must go to Africa!!!

  2. Giraffes are my favorite animals. We had the opportunity to feed the giraffes at the Santa Barbara Zoo last year. It was amazing. I had no idea their tongues were so long and could wrap around things.

That zebra is awfully cute too!

  3. Hi Kelli – there once was a zebra living not far from here… apparently in their case it was rescued from a zoo where it was not receiving proper care. Perhaps that’s another way to get your giraffes someday… seems more your style 🙂

  4. I’m so glad Caitlin had her outing but I am truly amazed about the wild animals you found there. What an adventure you had!

  5. I had a friend in high school who’s dad bought his wife a zebra for her birthday. Unfortunately, West Texas isn’t exactly the best climate for a zebra. It caught a cold & ended up dying. They now have a zebra rug 🙁

  6. We have an exotic ranch across the road from us and sometimes I see the zebras and they have several different kinds of antelope. Just beautiful creatures, I always pull onto the side of the road to watch for a while.

  7. Geez, I don’t really know what to say. Except for the fact that I am so happy technology helps you share this, because I would have never believed you if you didn’t have pictures.
