In Stitches Sew-Along?

November 10th

I sewed my first In Stitches pattern yesterday. It was fairly simple and gave me the idea of perhaps sewing each of the patterns in this book and blogging the results. Anyone interested in doing this with me? Or even reading about it? It would be a challenge, but Amy Butler really does have some lovely ideas included in these pages.

Project #1: Placemats and napkins for my friend John

and my interpretation. His favorite color is “pool” and he loved these. I was happy with the way they came out. They are reversible too, so if he gets sick of the paisleys, there are stripes on the back in coordinating colors.

And to celebrate his birthday, he received double chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting. The boy loves chocolate cake. {Here is a photo of his cake from last year.}

Double Chocolate Cupcakes
Ingredients:
1 box of Devil’s Food chocolate cake mix (Lazy, I know.)
3 eggs
1 dash of cooking oil
1 dash of water
1 bag of dark chocolate chips
1 cup or more of sour cream

Mix thoroughly. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Let cool in pan at least 10 minutes.

Buttercream frosting:
1 stick of butter at room temperature
Dash of vanilla
Dash of cardamom
1 cup of powdered sugar

Mix with handmixer. Frost cupcakes after they are cool to the touch. Voila — heaven in a cupcake liner.

  1. the cupcakes look divine!!!!!

i am definitely interested in seeing your “in stitches” sewing projects. i am interested in making them, too, but not sure if i’d have the time to dedicate to it. we’ll have to see.

  2. oh, and your placemats turned out great!!!!!

  3. That Amy Butler fabric you used for the back of your placemats (which turned out perfect BTW) is in the inside of the purse I am carrying right now. I am in lurve with Amy Butler stuff. πŸ™‚

  4. What a friggen awesome gift! You’re the best at this game. Yummy cupcake. I am imagine eating it right now. Mmmmmm…Finny love chocolate.

I love the idea of an “In Stitches”-a-long. What if this was a sew-a-long where we gathered up some peeps and everyone sewed at least one project from the book? I’d be so down with that. I oogled the book on Amazon and immediately saw at least 3 projects I’d want to do.

Whaddya think? You up for another group project? Feel like hosting an “In Stitches”-a-long? Maybe we pair up and host it? Too many questions? Huh? Huh? Huh?

    I’m very caffeinated today.

  5. Count me in on the in stitches along! How fun! I don’t know how many things I’ll be making…don’t give me any deadlines (ha!), but I’d love make some of the projects in there. Your placemats turned out great. And you’re killing me with the food photos! Yum.

BTW, I’ve been wanting to make the pumpkin peanut butter cookies, but I’ve been to 3 stores now and can only find the chocolate chip cookie mix. Huh!

  6. What a lucky friend! Cupcakes look so yummy. The sewing is fantastic too, but those cupcakes…

  7. That cupcake looks delicious!

I haven’t heard of the book before, but I would love to do a sew-along with you! I need to sew more, and revive my sewing skills. What better way than to do it with a friend?? I will have to look into getting the book and such first. πŸ™‚

  8. Ok, I was a very naughty girl and ordered the book! I look forward to making some fun projects and blogging about it though! Maybe we could each do one a month or something? Or is it going to be less formal than all that? πŸ˜‰

  9. How funny! I just perused the book today and decided to make the square potholders for gifts. I’ll look forward to seeing how your other projects turn out; the placemats were a great start! I really really like that paisley.

Oh, and as for the cupcakes: “lazy” nothing, girl. I’ve pretty much decided to stick to the mixes when it comes to cupcakes – I’m so much happier with the results. The homemade icing is what really seals the deal anyway (in my opinion)!

  10. HA! I hit the NoBloPoMo randomizer and got you!

  11. i like the placemat very much.
great idea to do the project. i would love to, however, i will be away and cannot commit.

  12. I’m not familiar with the book or the projects, but I’m game. I like FinnyKnits’ idea!

  13. Great placemats…I love Finny’s idea. Maybe pair people up and they make an item to send to each other? Just thinkin’.

Everytime I visit your blog, I wish I lived closer to the grocery store. But it is probably for the best as I’d be making and consuming every one of your recipes. And eventually my pants wouldn’t fit anymore.

  14. I would love to do an institches sew-along! There’re so many things in there I want to make. This sounds like a great idea, and it would be nice to see pictures of everyone’s different projects! I’m in. =D

  15. I can’t read your blog anymore. Just looking at all those pictures of sweets is causing my bum to expand. Ah, heck…I’ll be back. I’ve never been one for self-control.

I’d love to participate in the sew along, but I’m working on a major re-do of a table and chairs set (yep, I even like to recycle furniture!!). I just know if I buy that book – I’ll hit a standstill with this project. I would however enjoy “watching along.” πŸ™‚

  16. Hubby & I have some wedding $ to spend at Barnes & Noble and he just brought up the idea this morning that maybe he could buy a book and I could buy a book….I am thinking I have found what book I want to buy!!! I’m so into the stitch-along. πŸ™‚

  17. I’m interested! Your first project came out great πŸ˜‰

  18. OMG! so everyone completes one project? or would they be assigned like? i must get my in stitches back. i loaned it out and i’m getting antsy about it not being in my possession.
