No Downward Dogs during Down Week

December 29th

Ah, Down Week — one of my favorite times of the year. The week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve when everyone seems to be relaxed, lounging around in new clothing and having egg nog sunny side up for breakfast. I’m seeing lots of movies, eating way too much party food, sleeping in and writing stacks of thank you cards. I really enjoyed my time with family and am actually looking forward to going back to work next week. In the meantime, round two on the party circuit as we celebrate the birth of 2007.
{Note: Time to dust off the old resolutions and make some new ones. Like more crunches and less Capt’n Crunch.}

A few reviews:

~Blood Diamond is a great movie, although shockingly violent. You’ll never look at bling the same way again. Plus, it’s shot in Mozambique, so you’d get to see where I work. Jennifer Connelly has never looked more beautiful. Leo’s Boer accent sounded good enough to me.

~Second Hand Lions is a sweet, wonderful film. Have you seen this one? I found it in a stack of DVDs my parents own. Lovely and great to watch with kids.

~January’s issues of both Real Simple and Martha gave me the oomph to reorganize my closet and take a much more critical look at my pantry. Have you seen the January cover? Does anyone’s kitchen actually look like this?

~Justin Timberlake on Saturday Night Live? One: You cut a hole in the box. HILARIOUS.

~The FDA approving cloned animals for meat and dairy production? So, so glad I’m a vegetarian.

Three cheers to Down Week! Back with photos next week,

  1. I Loved Second Hand Lions.. I think it’s one of the best family movies I’ve ever seen! I was definitely not played up to it’s full advantage since so many people I know haven’t seen it..

  2. dang-nabbit!

i missed that episode of saturday night live. me and the hubby were out on a date, but i was so looking forward to the possibility of the barry gibb show making another appearance.

tell me it didn’t so i will feel better about missing it 🙂

  3. That was indeed the best SNL all year. And personally, I hope that the only people who have kitchens that look like that are people who don’t ever enter them. Because mine will never look ANYTHING like that. I just read a NYT article about “life is messy”. It made me feel better.

  4. You can watch the un-edited version of the SNL skit on their web-site. Its longer and way way more hilarious.

scroll down for the un-edited version.

  5. and yes, they did the barry gibb talk show.. he also did a re-take on Omlettevilee.. it was called homelessville… i LMAO at that

  6. Down week is more of down long weekend for us. We just returned from 17 days of travel! It was wonderful, but so is staying on the couch in my pjs today! I can’t wait to get nearly a months worth of mail and catch up on my Real Simple!

  7. Blood Diamond sounds intriguing. Second Hand Lions was a pleasant surprise. It had more depth than I expected, and was well balanced with humor. I watched “Baraka” last night and highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it already. It’s a stunning documentary with no dialogue and includes gorgeous African footage.

  8. I agree with you on Second Hand Lions. Such a cute film, and such a surprise too. Loved it.

We too have been watching more than our fair share of movies. I love this week too. 🙂 And yes, my kitchen does look like a magazine cover! LOL! I wish! I adore Real Simple.

  9. Haven’t even cracked my Real Simple yet, maybe I should or maybe I shouldn’t if I don’t want to start tearing apart my house to reorganize.

You know you could totally scrapbook if you wanted to start, you have so much talent.

  10. Tell me about it. I haven’t been to the gym since before Christmas. I can’t wait to get back though. 🙂
You know, I heard Blood Diamond was supposed to hurt diamond sales this xmas. Have a great rest of your time off!

  11. Martha’s january cover is great isn’t? I got her new housekeeping handbook for Christmas & it’s full of great ideas…did you get one yet?

Hope you have a wonderful 2007…take care!

  12. Thanks for the super cute holiday card! And the hole in the box song…brilliant! I’ve been laughing about that one for two weeks.

Happy holidays, congrats on a great 2006 and best wishes for 2007!

  13. Happy New Year Kelli! I agree – if cloned animals are approved here for sale as food we will be vegetarians too!
