November 11th

When I met Kinchie several weeks ago, I had no idea we’d become fast friends. Funny how the world works — it occasionally throws new people together who celebrate life similarly. When she came for community dinner last week, she handed me one of the most thoughtful gifts I’ve received — it blew me away. Having cruised my blog and Flickr account a bit, she put together an amazing array of photos that capture my spirit. It was a photo of me and the British Grannie that brought tears; it is incredible when someone you don’t know well has taken the time to know you well.

Kinchie tagged me. In the spirit of new friendships, the Universe bringing together birds of the same feather and all things sassy, I’m playing along:

* Link to the person who tagged you.
* Post the rules on your blog.
* Write 6 random things about yourself.
* Tag 6-ish people at the end of your post.
* Let each person know he/she has been tagged.
* Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

1. I fall in love quickly. Rarely has this served me well, and yet — I can’t help but find something I love in just about everyone.

2. I hate my materialistic American side, but damn I’d love a new pair of designer jeans. And while I say I’d never wear a diamond engagement ring, I’ve considered seriously turning in the diamond earrings an ex gave me for a larger, prettier set. All this from a girl who considers herself a pro-Africa humanitarian. Yuck. Pretty! Yuck. The debate rages.

3. I’m nervous about the holidays. I wish my family lived closer and coming together wasn’t a chore, but something that still happened naturally.

4. I dream of taking a love to Africa. We’ll swim on the beaches of Limbe, drink great wine in Stellenbosch, camp in Beira with Ken and Deb iand drink tea after long hikes through Mulange in Malawi. Maybe we’ll swing through Ethiopia on our way home and pick up our kid too. That would be the dreamy Hollywood ending.

5. I think I’ll become an Ironwoman next year and complete the full 140.6. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

6. My favorite number is 21. I look for it places and find it regularly. Every single time it makes me smile.

  1. Ah, Kelli. The trait of finding something you love in everyone you meet is a true gift. While it might have not served you well romantically–yet–it has given you wonderful friends from around the world and from every walk of life. What more could one want? Think of how sad life is for those who see only negative traits and things that are wrong.

  2. How beautiful! I love that picture she used on the front. It is one of my favorites of you.

  3. Wow. What a lovely gift – I’m sure she must be a really lovely person.

  4. Very interesting, Kelli. Thanks for being so transparent. I understand the unexplainable attraction to bling. I am not a jewelry or fussy person. I like to think I’m a what-you-see-is-what-you-get gal. But I have crow eyes. Crows will dive to pick up shiny things on the ground, like the old gum wrappers. You find all sorts of shiny things in a crow’s nest that they have scavenged from the world. So that is my excuse, if I need one, for being drawn to bling that goes completely against the rest of my character.

  5. That is a wonderful gift. I love scrapbooking. You can often come up with such neat things and keepsakes.

I’ve been meaning to ask you, what brand of camera do you use? Your pictures always come out so nice and bright. My old vivatar has about had it and I’ve been browsing the stores for a new one, but not sure which one I want.

  6. Hi Kelli,

I love the gift you received – so beautiful and so thoughtful. Wasn’t the DC Green Festival fun? I am so glad I met you! I think we have a similar trait in that we find something we like (love) in so many people… Anyway, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a lovely comment – remember wealth is health!

Also, I am interested in knowing what kind of camera you have also….very nice!

    Big Love, Tina

  7. Are you signing up for IMAZ ’09? Do it, do it, do it! My training partner and I are both going to try to get in, too–it would be so wonderful to meet you in person!

  8. If you want to sign up for IMAZ 09, you need to sign up to volunteer this year. That way you know you can register on Monday. Given that there was onsite signup for two ’08 races, I don’t expect to see much if any online availability.

Plus, you can come out and cheer for me. šŸ™‚

  9. What a beautiful, beatiful book. She has some talent. The cover is gorgeous! You deserve true love and great friendships1 Have a fabulous day!

  10. Fun post. Now here’s something weird and random: my lucky number is 21. I decided this when I was 10 and it has stuck. Hmmm…

  11. This was fun to read. And if I may say something about your internal war of thinking youre materialistic…..Abraham (from the bible) was a very weathly man…God fit to have him as a very important person and called him his friend…why?…because his heart was with God and wasnt with the money and neither is yours. You are a very sweet young lady who has a loving heart. It is okay to like nice things. But your heart doesnt serve nice things…you have shown all how you really serve the meek of the earth.

Anyway…hope I didnt shove my foot into my mouth by typing so much:)

  12. Beautiful gift! I loved reading these random things about you. I just did my 6, thanks for the tag.
