Where are those 5 Golden Rings Already?

December 17th

Things are still a wee bit chaotic at chez moi. I’m working a ton trying to meet an end-of-the-year challenge grant and also trying to prepare for the holidays. The grant has me more frenzied than the holiday, but both have created a crazy monster. I am running on fumes, but thankfully the end is in sight. This weekend I’m taking some time to teach a cooking class to a few high school and college-age girls and not stressing about the post office, checking account balances, wrapping paper or how I’m going to get a sled’s worth of gifts to Colorado.

Really. I’m not thinking about these. I’m not. I’m not. I’m not!

Okay. Maybe a bit.

I’m also thinking about how happy I am to have completed the following in the last 48 hours:

The one problem with this batch was too much chocolate. I realize some may not think this is a problem, but the recipients will have to either heat up the jar or hack at the seeds to  enjoy the sweet, salty deliciousness.

I stole Finny’s label idea and bought some of these Martha tags for my final Jars of Renewal projects. While this is a step down for her, it is a huge leap up for me. I usually make my tags with a felt tip pen and whatever I can stick to a jar. These are much nicer; good work Martie!

I’ve created a slew of jarred goods for my holiday baskets. I didn’t realize what a variety I had until I went through my pantry and pulled things out to be labeled. This has been a fun project. I’m looking forward to baking a bit this weekend before distributing the goodies.

And finally, a quick sneak peak into some of my favorite things from 2008 that I’m gifting this year…

  1. Surely you have done a lot of work! kudos to you….

  2. Beautiful scarf–very pretty colors! And, you know how I love F&E! My fave grocery store! Oooh, that yummy granola–I need to make that again. I will also have to add that book to my reading list. You have been busy. Get some rest this weekend.

  3. Have fun teaching that cooking class. I know you will.

  4. Wow! That scarf looks luscious! And it matches so well with what I have on today. 🙂
And Nacho Libre? No! Really? I never would have guessed that! (Note dripping sarcasm.)
I’ve got teacher & neighbor gifts to make tonight with the kids. Chocolate covered pretzels, peppermint bark, Christmas cookies and banana bread.
Rest up, my dear! And don’t stress (says the woman who’s middle name is stress this time of year!)

  5. Lots of work going on at your place, but the results are worth it. I love the colors of the scarf and the way you’re transforming the cannisters and making cute labels. You’ve reminded me that my daughter loves homemade granola so I need to get busy and make some for her.

  6. You have been a crazy busy crafter, cooker etc. The scarf looks so cozy!! And I just love Time Traveler’s Wife – I am sure the recipient will too!!

  7. The Time Travellers Wife is one of my favorite books, ever! My sister says they are making a movie. Did you also like Possession by AS Byatt. That was my fave until Time Travellers. If you are flying, it might be cheaper to pay for an extra bag than to ship/mail to Colorado.

  8. I’ve been reading your blog for a while now (and THANKS for turning me on to Finny’s blog, as well) and I have to say that I just don’t know how you seem to get 36 hours out of every day. Your energy and stamina is really impressive! As a person who used to be a grant manager, I know how exhausting and draining grants can be – so good luck with getting your grant out the door and I hope you’re rewarded for all of your hard work with a lovely Christmas.

  9. Strong work, amazing girl! The scarf is yummy and so are all the goodies (don’t you just LOVE Fresh n Easy??–I find they their pasta sauce and pickle jars make really good gift jars too–I’m giving my dad a jar of dark chocolate covered cashews in one of these!) I’m trying my hand at sourdough for the first time today…wish me luck–I can be such a ninny when it comes to cooking new stuff! Thanks so much for sharing your accomplishments–wow, you truly are inspiring!

  10. Okay…you have completely inspired me. Next year…it is a homemade Christmas for me. Mind you, I will have to start around January 1st. I will make a better effort next year. The only thing homemade this year was some gifts of homemade “Limoncello”. Not a bad start, but I could do better. I know I won’t be as crafty as you, but I can do better. Thanks for the inspiration. Between you and my daughter, I will be moving toward a stress free Christmas in 2009.

  11. Beautiful scarf! What a great color. I’m sure all your gifts will be LOVED!

  12. That orange label in the middle there (spicy bbq sauce) was my favorite. Obv. How fitting that you used it for bbq sauce.

Nice work Crazy Santa. Looks like you’re awash in the holidays. 🙂

  13. What a pretty scarf! I’m getting my act together finally, but won’t be as productive as are I’m afraid.

  14. Holy Smokes Batman! You have been busy! Yikes and your friend Finny too. Yikes I need to get to my kitchen….hmm when exactly not sure. I was up until 1:00 AM last night wrapping gifts for teachers and making dvds. Breathe, breathe. Ok I can do this too…. Love the scarf!

  15. That scarf is beautiful! The colors are my favorite!

You have inspired me to make more of my gifts next year.

Good luck with the Grant at work and pulling the rest of your holiday to-do’s together.

Please post a pic of your completed baskets with all your jars of renewal, I’d love to see the finished product.

  16. I’m running on fumes too. Nice work on everything and have fun. 😉

I have really enjoyed your jars of renewal project. Will you be doing it again in 2009?
    Have a wonderful holiday!

  18. Wow, you have been a whirl wind of activity! How did you hook up with this cooking class? Sounds like fun!

    Love the Nacho Libre!

  19. Day after day, you amaze me!

  20. ohh you’ve been busy. Don’t forget to keep sometime for yourself.

  21. Looks like you’ve been busier than one of Santa’s elves! I’m sure the recipients will be very pleased.

I noticed the Fresh & Easy products in your photos. They’ve just opened up 2 stores here, with a third opening soon. Now that I know you shop there, I’ll have to check them out. 🙂

  22. Wow – such a busy lady!

I loved The Time Traveler’s Wife. Good writing.

  23. утро начал с рюмки водки….(в смысле, песня Лепса)
