You Say Black Friday, I say JoAnn’s

Black Friday purchase

I did it; I got up with the crazies this morning and stood in line before our neighborhood JoAnn’s with my 20% off coupon in hand a visions of fleece and flannel dancing through my head. I actually ran to the right section, grabbed with might and within 20 minutes was waiting for my stash to be cut. Would you believe I was within the first 15 in the store and it still took an hour? There were people with carts full of bolts in front of me and four taxed women with scissors blazing behind the counter.

It was fun to hear what others were working on — many were dashing through the aisles to gather greatly discounted supplies for charity projects. There was much chatter about different hospital groups and cancer patients receiving soft, sweet new blankets soon.

Although I would have loved the search the racks at Tarjay for some new clothing and books, I headed home to get to sewing. I’ve got enough fabric here for 10 Christmas gifts and a little more than three weeks to make this happen. Nothing like a deadline and a deal to get me motivated. This fleece was $6 a yard, but today $1.49 and with my coupon I got the entire lot for less than $70. Just doing my part to help the economy, that is.

Hope your Thanksgiving was plentiful and peaceful!

  1. My sister and I went to Target (an hour away) and the mall this morning and were back home at was a bit ridiculous..Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful and your weekend is great!

  2. I love talking to people in craft stores to hear what they are creating. And how great that so many of the people in that store were shopping with charity projects in mind!
You are a braver woman than I. I can barely stand the thought of shopping in stores any time between now and New Year’s. But you had bargains to find!
    JoAnn’s has the cutest flannel.

  3. I just had the exact experience as you Kelli. I didn’t go first thing this morning, but early enough for the 20% off to still be applied. Everything I bought was 70% off because it was listed at 50% and then they took the other 20% off of the original price. No other shopping for me either. Just hurried home to start sewing. Can’t wait to see what you make!

  4. I am so impressed. I had visions of piles of 1.49 flannel but headed out for a 34th annual day after thanksgiving Dad and Daughter’s day. It all started with Santa when I was two. We had yummy fish, chips and beer for lunch at one of my favorite places, The Tap Room. I hope you are having a great day sewing 🙂

  5. Cant wait to see what you are making! Today I volunteered and had a great time:) Tomorrow I will be at Joanns especially if I can talk my husband in going there with me tonight.

  6. Hi Kelli!
    You are an inspiration!
Like you I got up early and went to AC Moore (like a Joanns Fabric) and piled the deals into my cart! I arrived at the store at 5 am and was out at 7 am. With my 30% coupon I saved $20.00. Glad to read you had a nice day with your Dad and Thanksgiving! Take care! Julie 🙂

  7. I went out to JoAnn Fabrics too, but unfortunately the 10 drawer storage unit was gone. Drat. Was hoping to get that for my scrapbooking stuff.

Looks like you found a lot of nice fabric though. Can’t wait to see what all you make from it.

  8. I squealed with delight to see that a blogger that I follow and admire (that’s you) purchased the same adorable Owl flannel at Joann’s that I did. I didn’t quite get there at the crack of dawn, more like dusk, but I did hear tales of waiting an hour for things to be cut! I can’t wait to see what you are making.

  9. Love the cupcake fabric. All I have to say to Black Friday shoppers is….more power to you. I was sleeping away in bed after gorging myself the day before on food.

  10. I also went to JoAnns first thing in the morning. By the tme I picked up flannel for a charity project, knits for cancer caps and the crayola set for Toys for Tots I was not in the mood for the rest of the sales. The next day, I must admit, I went back for the 50% wall and did some serious damaga:-)
